Context

In spring 2021, I started a study group with other self-taught UX designers who are living in different parts of the world. We wanted to have weekly meetings to update each other on our learning progress. Everyone was overwhelmed by the thought of having to figure out a good time to have the meeting, given that we live in 5 different time zones and have different schedules. A team member suggested we try Whenisgood.net (WIG) to solve this problem.

Two things came to my mind after my experience using WIG:

<aside> 👏🏻 WIG definitely made my life easier when it comes to finding a good time to schedule a meeting with people across timezones. It substitutes the traditional way of finding a good time to meet which includes sending 20+ messages back and forth to discuss availability and convert timezones.

<aside> 🤔 Even though the web app is supposed to be very easy to use (including only 3 steps and no account required), my team members and I had difficulty navigating through the application. Overall, despite its good intention, the experience of using WIG was not very pleasant, which made me hesitant to integrate it into my everyday life**.** → ****How might we improve the information architecture of WIG to help users navigate through the website easier?

Constraints

This is an unsolicited redesign. Thus, I didn't have access to the initial research when building the app and the current user data. I didn't get to work with real stakeholders to understand their business goals. That is to say, I did my best to make educated guesses on the user experience of the current app and focused on making design decisions with users in my best interest.

Overview

Whenisgood.net is a dead-simple Web app that does one thing: help users find a mutually convenient time for meetings or events without sending 20+ emails/messages back and forth.

How it works:

  1. Create an event and propose your availability.
  2. Your invitees view the proposed time then choose when they are available.
  3. View the result and choose the best option for everyone to meet.
